Bolton Fire Commission notes 42 emergency calls, confirms leadership and delays spending pending referendum

Bolton Fire Chief Bruce Dixon reported to the Bolton Fire Commission on May 19 that the department responded to 42 emergency calls over the past month, including motor vehicle accidents and one cardiopulmonary resuscitation call that resulted in a save.
Chief Bruce Dixon told commissioners the department’s ASM used the Lukas d-fib tool for the first time during recent responses. He also noted that elections on May 5 appointed Bruce Dixon as chief and Matthew Perreira as deputy chief; at the department’s annual meeting the chief announced the appointments of James DeMorro and Daniel Ross as captains, named Daniel Ross Fire Officer of the Year and Joseph Griffin Firefighter of the Year.
On finance, Dixon said the department will hold off on purchasing nonessential items for the remainder of the fiscal year while it awaits vehicle repair bills and the outcome of a town referendum scheduled for the following day. He said purchases of portable radios are on hold pending FEMA awards; the department is participating in a grant with the towns of Somers and Tolland to acquire radios.
The commission was also told the department and local partners received a $5,000 donation from Greater Bolton / Hartford For Giving toward the purchase of an underwater sonar camera; the department contributed $1,000 to complete the purchase.
Fire Marshal Bill Call presented the fire marshal’s report, listing recent activity and inspections. Call reported one Senior Knox Box installation, participation in a CRFMA meeting in Manchester, issuance of one burn permit with inspection, and completion of three-year inspections for several local properties including the Bolton Post Office, Bolton Wine and Liquor, Hop River Aerospace, Bolton Car Wash (listed under L. Fiano), Bolton Mini Golf (L. Fiano), the Larry Fiano office building, and Doggie Dental at 1159 Boston Turnpike.
There were no public comments or correspondence at the special meeting. Commissioners approved the March 24 and April 28, 2025 meeting minutes and adjourned at 7:20 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 23, 2025.
