Bolton Fire Commission reviews increased call volume, training and inspections; strategic plan bidding underway

At its Sept. 22 meeting, the Bolton Fire Commission heard that the department logged 82 calls over August and September, is ramping training (including a live burn with Andover Fire Department in October), and continues inspections across town. Commissioners also noted the strategic plan has gone out to bid, and the minutes were moved for approval.
The Bolton Fire Commission on Sept. 22 reviewed recent operational activity and training plans as the department prepares for fall and winter demands.
Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Perreira reported that the department handled 82 calls across August and September, including six motor-vehicle accidents (one on Route 6 and a separate four-car vehicle fire on I-384), multiple overdose and CPR/DOA calls, seven fire alarm activations and responses to a gas leak in Manchester. Perreira said the department requested and received a major purchase order, and that it is waiting for the Board of Selectmen to finalize the town budget before seeking proficiency-fund disbursements; last year’s proficiency fund program returned approximately 14 percent.
The chief’s report also described training activity: the commission was told members’ response to emergency calls has increased and that tonight the department was using its training building for ladder and ventilation operations. Perreira said the department will hold a live-burn training with the Andover Fire Department in October to meet annual training requirements.
The Fire Marshal’s written report, provided by Fire Marshal Bill Call although he was not present at the meeting, listed recent activities and inspections. Items included Senior Knox Box installations at South Road apartments, participation in regional housing strategy and a statewide OEM drill, follow-up on the Simonize fire call, and inspections of all town buildings. The report also recorded several three-year inspections (Constitution Coach, Bolton Shell, C&M Farm), assembly occupancies at United Methodist Church, Saint Maurice Church and Saint George Church, review of West Reach Construction, and work at the New Bolton High School Garage.
On administrative items, a motion to approve the July 28, 2025 meeting minutes was made by Commissioner Robert Langton and seconded by Commissioner Chris Moquin; the minutes record the motion though no roll-call vote is listed. Bills were circulated for payment with no vote recorded. A motion to adjourn, moved by Chris Moquin and seconded by Robert Langton, carried by a unanimous voice vote at about 8:16 P.M. The commission set its next regular meeting for Monday, Oct. 27, 2025.
The meeting packet notes Chief Dixon attended via Zoom but that the connection was not working for the meeting, and the Deputy Fire Marshal had no report.
