Bolton Fire Commission hears report on recent fires, notes capital purchases and approves minutes

The Bolton Fire Commission met on Jan. 27, 2025, at the Bolton Fire House and via Zoom. Fire Commission Chairman John Morianos called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.
Fire Chief Bruce Dixon reported the department handled 108 emergency calls across December 2024 and January 2025 and listed major incidents, including a structure fire at 25 West Street (Dean Cabinetry) that involved 14 surrounding town fire departments. Chief Dixon also cited other recent calls: multiple structure fires in neighboring towns, a hazardous-materials response on Route 6, vehicle and dumpster fires, CPR calls, and odor investigations. The chief described these items as part of routine incident activity for the period.
Chief Dixon provided a capital-improvement update, noting the purchase of a Polaris Ranger and an ET134 transmission item. He said monies tied to the department’s Strategic Plan are included in this year’s budget and that he and the Town Administrator are discussing implementing paid personnel for the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department.
Fire Marshal Bill Call delivered the marshal’s report for December and January, describing regional training and seminar attendance, three burn permits issued, and mutual-aid actions that included swearing-in events in Andover and Columbia. Call listed several BVFD call-backs for fuel spills, dumpster and structure fires, and an egress complaint. He also provided an inspections summary naming recent re-inspections and three-year inspections at local businesses and properties.
On procedural business, the commission approved the Dec. 9, 2024 meeting minutes with a correction: the prior meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m., not 8:15 p.m. The motion to approve the minutes was recorded as moved by Robert Langton and seconded by Chris Moquin and carried unanimously. Later, a motion to adjourn at 7:47 p.m. (moved by Chris Moquin, seconded by Robert Langton) passed unanimously.
No public comments or correspondence were recorded during the meeting. The commission set its next regular meeting for Feb. 24, 2025.
