Topeka council approves seasonal rehire, splits on West Park electrical decisions

The council unanimously approved the minutes from the March 24, 2025 meeting following a motion by Ray Folk and second by Steve Schrock. Park Superintendent Greg Strawser requested re-hiring Addison Bender for a fifth season as a part-time seasonal employee; Marlynn Mast moved to approve, Justin Geigley seconded, and the council voted all ayes to rehire.
On West Park electrical work council members approved a motion to request a quote for directional boring, with Justin Geigley moving and Ray Folk seconding; that measure passed unanimously. Later in the meeting the council voted on tabling final West Park electrical decisions until the Park Board meeting on May 27, 2025. The motion to table (moved by Steve Schrock and seconded by Justin Geigley) did not receive unanimous support: Ray Folk recorded a nay. The item will return for further Park Board discussion on May 27.
Council Member Marlynn Mast raised the possibility of livestreaming meetings to Facebook; Town Attorney Bill Eberhard participated in the procedural discussion. The meeting was adjourned by Council President Adam Lambright at 6:27 p.m. after a motion to adjourn by Steve Schrock and second by Justin Geigley.
