Union City to disburse Renaissance grants and notes ambulance loan repayment; zoning amendments deferred

At its June 25 meeting the Union City Borough Council reported receipt of a $100,000 ECGRA Renaissance grant and approved four Renaissance grant applications totaling $17,675 for the 2023/2024 grant period, leaving a remaining Renaissance balance of $750.49. Two additional applications totaling $9,452.65 were carried forward to the 2024/2025 grant period for later consideration.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells said six applications were received totaling $27,127.65; council approved the four recommended awards on the basis that the property improvements would help combat blight. The motion to approve the recommended awards carried unanimously.
The council also recorded that the Union City Volunteer Fire Department repaid its ambulance loan in full, $59,250, and noted Erie County Land Bank purchases of two tax-sale properties (11 Maple Street and 48 Atlantic Street) for which the council passed tax-exoneration resolutions.
Council discussed proposed amendments to the parking and zoning ordinances, including front-end parking in Municipal Lot #2, License Plate Reader capabilities and possible zoning changes related to small games of chance and pools in vacant adjoining lots, but deferred those zoning items until the borough solicitor can attend a future meeting.
Council action: approval of four Renaissance grant awards totaling $17,675 for 2023/2024, tax-exoneration resolutions for two properties, and acknowledgment of UCVFD loan repayment. Zoning amendments were deferred.
