Granite VNA asks Henniker for $15,000 to support local home-based care

Julie Stone, vice president of strategy for Granite Visiting Nurse Association, asked the Henniker Select Board on Sept. 17 to include $15,000 in the town’s 2025 budget to support home-based nursing, hospice and community wellness clinics for Henniker residents.
Stone told the board Granite VNA serves about 300 people in Henniker and said the organization’s broader annual operating budget is approximately $50,000,000, with roughly $2,000,000 in free and subsidized care across 82 communities. "We come before you today because many of the patients that we serve are either under insured or uninsured," Stone said, and requested the town’s consideration to help residents who cannot otherwise afford care.
Board members treated the request as a routine budget submission. Selectman Flynn suggested Diane and staff route the request into the 2025 budget process; Stone confirmed the $15,000 figure is intended for the 2025 budget year. The board did not make any immediate appropriation; members said they will prioritize the request alongside other social-service and nonprofit funding requests during upcoming budget work sessions.
Stone offered to return for budget deliberations if the board requests additional detail. The board’s next step is to consider the VNA’s request during scheduled budget review sessions and decide whether to include the allocation in the draft 2025 budget.
The Select Board did not take a vote on funding at the meeting; the request will be evaluated in the budget process.
