The board discussed logistics for the city’s annual pumpkin collection after staff reported that construction of a roundabout at Beaverheimer and Walnut could block access to the usual drop-off drive. The chair said the closure could begin by Dec. 1 or stretch into spring depending on the construction schedule.
Members proposed alternate collection sites: Taylor Farm Park (preferred for visibility), a parking area near the adaptive sports field, and the All Saints Episcopal Church lot. Concerns included truck-turn radius, ease of ingress and egress, visibility for residents, and staffing to move overflow pumpkins. The chair asked staff to evaluate those options from a technical standpoint and to decide quickly because the collection typically runs Oct. 31–Dec. 1.
Participants also discussed encouraging residents to leave undecorated pumpkins for wildlife composting and warned that decorated pumpkins (paint, glue, glitter) should not be left for wildlife. The board did not set a final alternative site during the meeting and asked staff to return with feasibility analysis.
