The Maria Reiner Center Board of Directors met March 26, 2026, at the Maria Reiner Center in Hobart and voted unanimously to approve the minutes from February 26, 2025, meeting the agenda, claims totaling $1,990.33 and the February financial report showing $181,556.49 in cash and investments.
Aimee Schallenkamp, the center's executive director, summarized recent activities and upcoming events, saying the center hosted a Volunteer Appreciation luncheon on March 4 and classes and trips in March, and plans a Powers Health presentation on April 7, a Mother's Day luncheon on May 8 and a day trip to Shipshewana on May 29. She reported a washer was donated and a dryer was donated by board member Brian Snedecor and Sam's Club; both are now installed and operational. Schallenkamp also said Pickleball Partners is no longer affiliated with the Maria Reiner Center and that several members have volunteered to provide instruction in its place.
Pam Ridings, the board vice president, offered to sponsor a Pickleball Day. Board member Kelsey Perry suggested a presentation on mobile banking and said she would contact a representative from Chase Bank; the board also discussed a potential elder-law presentation and noted the Hobart Chamber has joined with Crown Point, creating a possible joint chamber golf event that the center has in the past supported by sponsoring a hole.
The board recorded that three member terms expire in April—Leni Vinzant, Carol Heikema and Lynn Kostbade—and that Heikema and Kostbade indicated they would like to remain on the board. Routine motions passed unanimously: approval of the minutes (motion by Dee Bedella; seconded by Lynn Kostbade), approval of the agenda (motion by Carol Heikema; seconded by Kelsey Perry), acceptance of claims (motion by Dee Bedella; seconded by Brian Snedecor) and approval of the financial report (motion by Brian Snedecor; seconded by Kelsey Perry). With no further business the board adjourned at 10:01 a.m. (motion by Lynn Kostbade; seconded by Dee Bedella).
Attendance was recorded as Carol Heikema, Dee Bedella, Brian Snedecor, Lynn Kostbade, Carrie Adelman, Pam Ridings and Kelsey Perry; Trey Gilliana and Leni Vinzant were listed as absent in the roll call. The board meets on the last Thursday of each month at 8:45 a.m.; the minutes note the recurring schedule and list the next meeting time.
Minutes taken by Aimee Schallenkamp were submitted with the meeting materials.
