Holgate council renews solicitor contract, accepts $6,440 lagoon quote and handles routine business

The Village of Holgate Council on Nov. 25 approved a set of routine but consequential administrative actions, including renewing the village solicitor's contract for 2025 and hiring a contractor for lagoon brush grinding.
Council member Chris Healy moved to suspend the three readings of Ordinance #868 and declare it an emergency; Council member Jeffery Rothman seconded and the suspension passed. Healy then moved to approve Ordinance #868, Rothman seconded, and the council approved the ordinance. The ordinance renews the village solicitor's contract for 2025 with no changes to the contract terms.
The council also accepted a $6,440 quote from Tawa Mulch for brush grinding and material handling at the village lagoons after a motion from Healy and a second from Nick Stephy. The council approved the village bills for payment after a motion by Mike Medina and a second from Chris Healy.
Council member Mike Medina asked that lights be strung across the road and said the Ohio Department of Transportation would be contacted to confirm whether lighting could cross the state highway. Medina moved to approve the lights contingent on ODOT approval; Healy seconded and the motion passed.
The council moved into and returned from executive session earlier in the meeting to discuss personnel and pending litigation. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.; the next regular meeting is Dec. 9, 2024.
