Holgate council clears routine business, discusses brush-site hours, downtown lights and utility easement

The Village of Holgate council completed routine business and addressed several local operational items during its Dec. 9 meeting.
Council approved the minutes of the previous meeting (motion: Chris Healy; second: Mike Medina), the finance statement (motion: Healy; second: Medina), temporary appropriations (motion: Jeffery Rothman; second: Healy) and the payment of bills (motion: Healy; second: Rothman). All routine motions passed by recorded vote with Councilmembers Healy, Medina, Hohenberger, Valdez and Rothman voting yes and Nick Stephy absent.
Council discussed operational items including hours for the brush drop-off site at the lagoons, with options presented for limited hours versus 24-hour access. Council members agreed to defer a final decision until security cameras at the site are turned on.
The council also discussed hanging holiday lights downtown (from Sagers to the bank) and received an apology from a juvenile charged with four counts of criminal damaging to village property; no further disposition was recorded in the meeting minutes.
Council reviewed a letter from First Energy seeking to lease an easement for soil-boring work. The meeting record referenced a figure of $3,500 in connection with the request but used unclear phrasing; Village Solicitor Anthony Johnson was asked to review the letter and report back to council.
Mayor Elva Wyandt presided. The meeting adjourned on a motion from Mike Medina, seconded by Chris Healy. The council set its next regular meeting for Jan. 13, 2025.
