The Hobart Board of Public Works and Safety on Feb. 4 recorded a string of routine approvals and a handful of procedural actions.
The board approved the minutes of the Jan. 21, 2025 meeting, the register of claims and payroll, and the meeting agenda on unanimous votes (all aye 3–0). A motion by Mr. Huddlestun, seconded by Mrs. Longer, accepted the minutes.
The board approved a contract renewal with SiteMed to provide Hobart Fire Department physicals. Fire Chief Lopez said SiteMed performed the department’s physicals last year and that the renewal cost is slightly higher to reflect a larger roster of firefighters. "This is the same company the Fire Department used last year and everything went well," Lopez said.
The board voted to table the Indiana Landmarks contract renewal at the request on the floor.
City Engineer Alex Metz asked the board to approve a $10,000 increase to American Structurepoint’s construction inspection contract for the Wisconsin St. CCMG project, explaining that Lillian Street was included in the CCMG paving program and a sinkhole required repair prior to paving. "If this street is not paved, CCMG will take their money back," Metz said. The board approved the amendment (3–0).
During unfinished business, the board removed and then denied a request for a 15-minute parking sign at 405 Main St.; the petitioner did not respond to follow-up messages from police. All motions in these items also passed 3–0.
Why it matters: the SiteMed renewal maintains the fire department’s routine occupational-health services; the American Structurepoint amendment preserves eligibility for CCMG paving funds by funding necessary inspection services tied to a sinkhole repair. Denying the parking sign leaves the curb regulations unchanged at 405 Main St.
The meeting adjourned at 3:51 p.m.
