Lumpkin council selects CDBG engineer, approves lease for downtown pizza shop and authorizes patrol-car repairs

The Lumpkin City Council on Jan. 14 approved several routine administrative and economic-development actions, including selecting Stillwater Engineer for the city's CDBG 2025 grant, approving a downtown lease for a pizza shop, and authorizing repairs to police vehicles.
By unanimous vote the council accepted Stillwater Engineer to handle work on the CDBG 2025 grant after noting two engineering proposals had been received. "There were two packages submitted for the engineer," the clerk reported; the motion by B. Cullefer, seconded by F. Brown, passed 6-0.
Chief of Police M. Holloway told the council three patrol cars needed repairs costing about $1,500. The council approved the repairs by motion (6-0) so the department can return the vehicles to service.
The council also reviewed a draft lease for the city-owned Old Cleaner Building. Mr. C. Torresson told the council he plans to open a pizza shop, will perform the repairs himself and asked the city to install an air-and-heat unit for the corner building next to City Hall. The council approved the lease and separately approved installing the HVAC unit (motions passed 6-0).
On personnel and routine business, the council voted to reopen applications to hire another full-time public-works employee, accepted a Christmas bonus offered by Councilman Thomas to city workers, and approved purchase of a 21-foot Christmas tree for downtown holiday display. Council members also raised operational items including recent water-leak repairs and a concern about fiber-optic installation depth.
Next steps: staff will move forward with the procurement tasks related to the CDBG grant, finalize the lease paperwork with Mr. Torresson and proceed with patrol-car repairs and HVAC installation as authorized.
