Recycling pitch, a proposed campsite and a street-renaming request draw public comment in Lumpkin

During public comment at the City of Lumpkin council meeting on Dec. 10, three residents spoke on separate topics.
Janice Bennett urged the city to consider recycling as a way to address trash disposal, showing items that can be made from cardboard, paper and water bottles and telling the council the approach “could be a solution to the city's trash disposal problems.”
Mr. H. Talmadge told the council he plans to open a business on the courthouse square and is developing a campsite across from Providence Canyon; he said he looks forward to working with the council on permitting and other steps.
T. Gaines White requested that St. John Street be renamed for her father, Isacc Gaines, who lived on the street. The mayor and council told White she must speak with all residents on the street and warned that homeowners would need to change their addresses on official paperwork if the street is renamed.
The council did not take immediate action on any of the public comments; members offered procedural guidance and noted that formal requests, permits or petitions would be required for changes such as a street renaming.
