Lumpkin council approves hires, approves training and notes long-time employee retirement

At its Dec. 10 meeting, the City of Lumpkin council approved personnel moves to bolster public works staffing and approved training requests for city employees.
Clerk Anne Holloway reported that interviews produced suitable candidates and recommended hiring two full-time public works employees and one part-time worker. The council approved the hires; full-time positions will start at $12 an hour, part-time at $10 an hour, and all hires will serve a 90-day probationary period.
The council also approved staff training requests: the clerk asked whether “Mike” could attend a chemical training in Albany on Jan. 7, 2025, and the council agreed. In a separate item, Public Supervisor W. Clark told the council the Dec. 10 meeting would be his last; Clark said he has been employed with the city for “over 42+ years” and is retiring at the end of December. The council voted to allow Willie Clark to continue attending required training to keep his gas certification active.
Councilmembers framed the actions as necessary to maintain services and certifications as the city implements upcoming projects. The council recorded unanimous support for the staffing and training motions.
