Lumpkin council approves $75 monthly pay increase, holiday overtime policy and several purchases

The City of Lumpkin council voted on several personnel and purchasing items at its Oct. 8, 2024 meeting.
After returning from an executive session on personnel, the council voted 5–0 to increase City Council pay by $75 per month. The minutes record the motion as: "Increase the City Council pay by $75.00 monthly." The council also approved a holiday-pay policy, voting 5–0 to pay double time for hours worked on a holiday while also providing straight time for the holiday itself.
On purchasing and facilities, the council approved replacing the City Hall doors, directing staff to accept the lowest bid from Eufaula Glass (motion passed 5–0). The council also approved purchasing the camera system described by Clerk Anne Holloway: councilmember Barbara Callafer moved to purchase the camera for $500 from M. Holloway; the minutes indicate the system includes eight cameras and a monitor and that the city may rent the system to other municipalities. Clerk Anne Holloway was authorized to attend a workshop in Tifton, Ga.; that motion also passed unanimously.
The clerk informed the council that HB 451 recently passed the General Assembly and will be effective Jan. 1, 2025; the law will require the city to provide coverage for first responders, and the clerk said the city can obtain coverage through the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). The minutes do not record an associated vote on local implementation during the meeting.
Other items recorded in the minutes included routine approvals of the agenda, September minutes and financial report, a request for pricing for a metal shed near the sewage pond, and a road-closure request for the 18th Annual Bike Ride on Oct. 19. The meeting concluded after the motions and adjournment vote.
