Village of Fort Recovery staff gave a series of public-works updates at the Oct. 21 council meeting covering ODOT coordination, pedestrian crossings, street lighting and annexation.
Randy Diller said he signed right-of-way letters for an ODOT systemic project and that appraisals have begun. He said he expects the appraisal process to be time-consuming but that it is moving forward. On pedestrian safety, Diller said the rapid flashing beacons planned for the Elm and Center Street crossing are delayed pending delivery and will be installed once received.
Abby Miller said Miller Cable is scheduled to install lighting on Butler Street and that the contractor plans to pour foundations before ordering poles; she told the council poles are expected to be about 26 weeks out. Council members and staff discussed concerns about installing foundations now if poles will not arrive for months, noting potential sidewalk disruption during winter maintenance.
On annexation, Erin Abels said she is working on the files; Diller said the village remains waiting for resolutions and legal descriptions from Wendel Realty Group and Mercer Health to complete pending annexation paperwork. Diller also said he requested pricing to purchase 75 street lights and one pole and was checking contract opt-out language.
No formal votes on the ODOT items, cemetery/local real-estate matters or annexation were recorded in the minutes; staff reported they will follow up with the contractors and outside parties and return to council with timelines and cost details.
