Mayor Huddlestun announced during the April 15 meeting of the Hobart Board of Public Works and Safety that the City had received a grant to purchase electric vehicles for the Police Department. Police Chief Ciszewski said the City was awarded $290,900.00, which enabled purchase of seven vehicles.
According to Chief Ciszewski, the vehicles are expected to arrive within the next seven days but will not appear on patrols for roughly a month while the department completes upfitting. He said the grant covers 79% of the cost and the City will pay the remaining 21%.
The board did not take a separate vote to accept the grant at the meeting; the announcement was made as correspondence and project planning. The vehicles’ arrival and the upfitting schedule were identified as the next operational steps.
The City identified the purchase and upfitting timeline during routine board business; no additional funding breakdowns or grant source names beyond the award amount and percentage share were provided at the meeting.
