Chevelon Butte board approves bus-fleet spending, intergovernmental agreements and consent items

Chevelon Butte Elementary School District #5’s governing board on Aug. 14 approved funding and agreements aimed at shoring up the district’s transportation operations and passed its routine consent agenda.
Angela Plantholt, the district’s Administrative Operations Manager, presented bids and agreements for the board’s consideration. The board voted to authorize up to $17,000 to install a concrete slab sized to accommodate the district bus fleet, after reviewing a lower quote for a 25-by-30 slab and opting to fund a larger pad suitable for long-term fleet needs. Dr. Laurie Hawke moved the funding authorization and Judy MullikinFernandez seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also considered fleet access and sharing arrangements. Plantholt presented an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Heber-Overgaard covering tuition and shared use of a white-bus fleet; Amy Snodgrass moved to approve the IGA, Dr. Hawke seconded, and the board approved the agreement as presented. The board approved a second IGA permitting Blue Ridge Community Church limited electrical access at the bus barn when needed; Judy MullikinFernandez moved approval and Stephanie McKeever seconded.
Transportation Manager Ms. Hebert reported that bus #23 returned from Heber-Overgaard with mechanical concerns — no oil reading on the dipstick, a flat tire and a broken exhaust bracket — and noted a quoted white-bus option that the board described as imperfect but useful for urgent staffing needs. The board authorized staff to pursue acquisition of a white bus up to $20,000 (motion by Dr. Hawke, second by Amy Snodgrass).
The board also approved the consent agenda, which the minutes list as AP vouchers #2601–#2605 (amounts recorded in the minutes) and payroll vouchers #1–#2; Dr. Hawke moved approval and Ms. Snodgrass seconded. The minutes record every motion on the agenda as passing unanimously.
No public comments were recorded during the meeting. The board requested a McKinney-Vento presentation at the next meeting and asked staff to bring ratification documentation for the concrete slab decision and to review the district website at the next session.
