Gettysburg council reviews equipment purchases, park staffing and an unrecorded alley

Mayor Valinda Hammons told the council that Rue Bowman has asked to have water service to a local bank disconnected to avoid paying the bill; Hammons reported the council's position that the service should remain active and asked staff to consult the village solicitor. Administrator Aaron Flora said snow removal performed well and that the new snow truck has been effective. Flora reported the village purchased two pumps for the water plant—one to replace an existing unit and one retained as a backup—and said he would invite Craig Knapke to the April meeting to discuss pursuing grants for street projects. Flora also said he would seek pricing to replace the tractor with a Bobcat and to sell the small truck.
Fiscal Officer Heather Canan said Scott Clark discovered an alley closed in 2002 that was never recorded with the county Recorder's office; Canan said she will file the necessary paperwork. Canan said she is preparing year-end financial reports and scheduled a finance meeting for March 5 at the council house to go over the budget.
Canan also told the council that the Park Board needs help after member Deanna Eikenberry entered hospice care and that Vern Eikenberry is struggling to manage park responsibilities alone; the council set a Park Board meeting for March 12 at 6:30 p.m. and asked staff to contact members. Dan May suggested staff obtain cost estimates for adding gravel to the park surface.
