The Vallejo Commission on Culture and Arts cleared several work-plan items for the June agenda by consensus on May 27 and discussed how to structure ad hoc committees to advance the commission’s priorities.
Chair Wise opened the discussion of the goal-setting work plan and commissioners clarified the process: topics go to a ‘futures’ list first and then may be agendized for a future meeting where the commission can act. Commissioners emphasized the need to prioritize ad hoc committees and be mindful of member time and rotation for long-term committees.
Vice Chair Vidor asked that brochure design and planning for a proclamation event be included in the work plan timeline, noting the lead time needed to secure council approval and budget placement. A staff member advised commissioners that the city council will review budget requests in early June after a delay this year and that Measure P recommendations will be considered as part of that process.
By consensus the commission placed three items on the June agenda: creating various ad hoc committees to move the work plan forward; discussing partnership with the Economic Development Commission; and discussing hosting an event for Art, Culture & Creativity Month in 2027. Commissioners also agreed to follow up on cross-commission collaboration with the Beautification Commission.
The commission did not take final votes on establishing specific ad hoc memberships or directives at the meeting; those details will be worked out at the June meeting when the ad hoc committee items are agendized.
