Community fiber cabinet cutover set for Saturday; committee told project is on track for June completion

Los Altos Hills' community fiber partners told the Technology Committee they will cut over a newly installed cabinet this weekend and that the Fremont Road segment will be ready to carry customer traffic.
A Foothill/LHCF representative said the cabinet installed under the town funding agreement will begin to carry community fiber traffic Saturday and that people who had been waiting for service will be able to move forward with connections. The speaker said outstanding permit comments — including the Stonebrook permit and final plantings for Fremont — have been addressed and the team expects to close permits and complete the project before the end of next month.
The committee discussed the disconnected scope under Highway 280 (work that depends on AT&T coordination). Foothill staff said that segment was intentionally separated from the current cutover because AT&T timelines vary, but the team continues to pursue that connector. Hidden Villa and other institutional connections were reported nearly complete, with a small list of remaining staff hours and scheduling constraints due to access and seasonal activity.
Committee members encouraged the project team to present a brief update to the council at the June 18 meeting if the schedule is still uncertain and to provide notice if an extension becomes necessary. Foothill said it expects the bulk of work to be completed by the second week of June and will file any remaining encroachment permit revisions this week.
