Select Board raises Tree Revolving Fund spending limit to $25,000

The Lynnfield Select Board unanimously approved raising the maximum authorized spending from the Tree Revolving Fund to $25,000 at its April 28, 2026 meeting, following a request from the Planning Board.
Planning Board Chair E. Paige Wilkins told the Select Board the fund—supported by revenues from the town’s Tree Bylaw—needs a larger spending cap to provide a buffer for the rest of the fiscal year. Wilkins said the Department of Public Works and the town arborist are coordinating plantings and that estimated costs run about $200 to $500 per tree. Planning Board member Amy McNulty said planting sites have been identified and that trees will be placed in prominent town locations.
Vice Chair Richard Dalton moved the authorization increase, and Clerk Joseph Gallagher seconded. Dalton framed the motion as an administrative change to allow the Planning Board to proceed with purchases; the Board voted unanimously to approve the change. The motion cited M.G.L. Chapter 44, Section 53E½ as the statutory authority for the revolving fund spending limit.
The Board recessed shortly afterward to attend Town Meeting and took no further action through that meeting’s adjournment.
