Middletown council renews $15,000 tree-trimming contract, declines IMPA switch for now

Earlier in the meeting Council member Dan Fountain reported speaking with Drew Cooper about the question of contracting with the Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA). Fountain said, after those discussions, that moving to an IMPA agreement would not be feasible given the town's fragile 2020 budget and recommended continuing current practice of using licensed linemen as needed.
The council did not approve any change in electric service provider at this meeting. With the Fresh Cut motion carried, the council concluded consideration of maintenance contracting for 2019.
What happens next: The Fresh Cut contract runs through the remainder of 2019; broader utility-contract decisions could be revisited when the town's budget is adjusted in August.
