The Village of Jacksonville held an emergency council meeting on Feb. 24, 2025, that was suspended for an executive session under Ohio Revised Code 121.22(G)(3).
Councilperson Butch Chapman moved at 6:04 PM to enter the closed session, naming Mayor Sam Smathers, Solicitor Andrew Grillo and Fire Chief DJ Henry as participants; Councilperson Eric Clift seconded. According to the meeting record, “all council members voted ‘yes’” to enter the executive session. The public meeting was suspended at 6:04 PM.
Councilperson Eric Clift moved to end the executive session; Butch Chapman seconded. The council reported that all council members again voted yes and the public meeting resumed at 7:44 PM. Mayor Sam Smathers told the body that no decisions were made as a result of the executive session.
