Long Beach public safety facility septic system completed; minor pump repairs followed

The Long Beach Police Commission reported that the septic system for the town’s new public safety facility was installed by Steuer Septic Systems of Hebron, Indiana and passed the LaPorte County Health Department final inspection on Dec. 23, 2024, Chief Mark Swistek said at the March 20 meeting.
Swistek said that after completion the electrical pump controller required rewiring and a pipe in the pump tank had to be relocated; those issues have been addressed and "the system is running well." He identified the contractor (Steuer Septic Systems) and the inspection date in the minutes.
Commissioners also discussed a separate local safety suggestion: Commissioners Megan Applegate and Colleen Lane proposed adding a mirror or signage at the blind hill at Chasleton and Oriole Trail to improve driver visibility when turning west from Chasleton onto Oriole. Chief Swistek said he will consult Street Superintendent Tom Dolph and noted the Long Beach Civic Association could consider assisting with purchase costs.
There was no public comment. The commission adjourned at 3:22 p.m.; the next meeting is June 19, 2025.
