Committee recommends payment of $661.50 property-damage claim for Rosibel Salinas

The Waukesha City Finance Committee on Nov. 11 recommended payment of a $661.50 property-damage claim from Rosibel Salinas, after staff told the committee the city had identified the diseased tree and had slated it for removal prior to the incident.
Chair introduced agenda item B (ID 25-02437) and asked staff to explain. Bridal (staff) said the claim resulted from a limb falling from a tree that city forestry staff had identified as diseased and marked for removal but had not yet removed because of crew backlog. Bridal recommended allowance of the claim “in the amount of $661.50.”
Bridal described the department’s practice for settled claims: claimants sign a receipt and release as full and final payment. A committee member asked why the tree had not been removed when it was identified; Bridal said Parks, Recreation and Forestry had a work backlog and crews had not reached the tree in time. Following a motion to allow the claim and a second, the committee approved the recommendation by voice vote, unanimous, 4-0.
The committee did not alter the recommended settlement amount at the meeting and forwarded the matter to counsel for payment processing and execution of the release.
