Finance committee approves EMS physician-advisor contract, names Dr. Deluri

The Waukesha City Finance Committee voted unanimously on Nov. 11 to approve a contract for the city’s Emergency Medical Services physician advisor, naming Dr. Deluri to the post.
The committee’s Chair introduced agenda item ID 25-02498 and invited the department chief to explain the contract. The chief said the city is required by state statute to operate EMS under the direction of a physician, that the previous physician is retiring after 10 years, and that the department concluded an interview process before selecting Dr. Deluri. The chief told the committee, “He’s a phenomenal person. He’s really invested in the community and I think he’s gonna be really good for the agency.”
Committee members asked about costs. The chief said the contract’s terms are unchanged and, when accounting for scheduled raises, “there’s actually…it’s in our favor,” meaning the net financial effect is slightly beneficial to the city. The chief also said the funds to cover the contract are available in the current budget.
With a motion from the Chair and a second acknowledged, the committee approved the contract by voice vote, 4-0. The committee did not attach additional conditions to the contract during the meeting. The committee did not announce an effective start date during the discussion; contract funding was described as already budgeted.
