Vallejo proclaims June Pride Month and Philippine Cultural Month; community groups highlight events

The Vallejo City Council on May 26 proclaimed June 2026 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month and separately recognized Philippine Cultural Month, honoring long-running local traditions and flagging a slate of community events.

Council Member Bogenzer presented the Pride proclamation to representatives from the Vallejo Gay Network, Louise Lawrence Transgender Archive and other community groups, who described local programming, archival exhibits and the group’s 28th annual Pride picnic. A Vallejo Gay Network representative said the proclamation “sends a clear resonant message that here everyone belongs.” Miss Bob of the Louise Lawrence Transgender Archive said she was “happy and proud” to share the month with the Filipino community and noted an upcoming exhibit at the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum.

Vice Mayor Michulik and Council Member Paul Maris jointly presented the Philippine Cultural Month proclamation. Annie Frias Ramos, president of the Filipino Community of Solano County, noted the organization’s 80th anniversary and invited residents to the Pista San Anayon festival at Mare Island Coal Sheds on June 6. City staff and council members encouraged public attendance and highlighted the month as a chance to celebrate cultural contributions.

Why it matters: The proclamations are ceremonial but underscore formal recognition by the city and spotlight planned community activities and local nonprofit services, from youth events to archival exhibitions. Organizers and staff also used the presentations to remind the council and residents of volunteer opportunities, grant-supported programs and upcoming public celebrations.

Councilmembers thanked presenters and invited the public to attend the events. The council moved on to community forums and consent business after the presentations.
