Granby Commission on Aging approves minutes; senior center brings lunch service in-house

The Town of Granby Commission on Aging convened March 9, 2026, at 10:04 a.m., approved the minutes of its Feb. 9 meeting by a 7-0-1 vote and heard updates on local senior programs and partnerships.
Chairman Jean Donihee-Perron told commissioners that Good Samaritan has withdrawn from the Kearns project but that 7 Summits is continuing to work with the town; she said term sheets have been sent to the town attorney to formalize funding arrangements. Donihee-Perron and Maureen Eberly also reported participating in a COACT Zoom meeting and said they will share details for the next meeting in April.
Director of Human Services Sandra Yost gave the activities report, saying the St. Patrick’s Day luncheon scheduled for March 11 has more than 80 sign-ups and that AARP tax-assistance is mid-season with almost all appointment slots filled. Yost said a new Barre exercise class began in early March with 12 initial participants. She reported that the Senior Center ended its meal contract with Community Renewal Team and has taken meal service in-house in partnership with Chartwells; participants have renamed the program “The Lunch Bunch,” and the Senior Club will offer 50 complimentary lunches to new members trying the program.
Yost also noted two sold-out buses are scheduled for a March 19 trip to Ikea (rescheduled from February), that the Older Adult Advisory Council (Falls Free CT) will meet on March 12 for its second meeting, and that the Mahjong group’s weekly attendance is growing.
Under new business commissioners said the recent Volunteer Fair had a good turnout; there was no update provided on the elderly tax abatement. On a motion by Maureen Eberly, seconded by Ellen Thomson, the commission voted unanimously (8-0-0) to adjourn at 11:20 a.m.
