Orleans council adopts 2026 budget totaling $2.47 million

The council approved a total budget of $2,472,693 — the same amount as the published proposal — and Clerk-Treasurer Robert F. Henderson said the document will be forwarded to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance for review and approval.
The adopted budget lists major fund allocations including Casino/Riverboat $929,700; General $1,422,993; Motor Vehicle Highway $145,550; Local Road & Street $45,000; Aviation/Airport $29,410; Cemetery $63,405; Cumulative Capital Improvement $10,850; Cumulative Capital Development $120,000; Economic Development $205,500; and Public Safety LIT $298,100. The council did not alter the published totals when adopting the budget.
Why it matters: Adoption begins the formal review and approval process required by the state and sets next year’s spending levels for town services, road maintenance, cemetery operations and public safety staffing and equipment.
The council’s formal adoption was recorded in the meeting minutes. The budget will proceed to the Department of Local Government Finance as the next step in the approval process.
