Lower Pottsgrove board approves routine financial items, hears infrastructure and safety updates

The Lower Pottsgrove Township Board of Commissioners met Sept. 2 and approved routine administrative and financial business while receiving updates from municipal staff on infrastructure, public safety and community events.
President Raymond W. Lopez opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. and Solicitor Jamie Ottaviano noted an earlier executive session for informational purposes only. Commissioner Michael McGroarty made the motion to approve the Aug. 4 minutes; Commissioner William Keohane seconded and the vote was 5-0 in favor.
Township Manager Edward C. Wagner told the Board that contractor JD Eckman plans to shift eastbound traffic to newly paved Route 422 between Porter Road and the Sanatoga interchange on Sept. 10, weather permitting, and that a Sept. 8 meeting will finalize turn-lane details. Wagner said work on the South Pleasantview Road Bridge is progressing and the bridge is scheduled to reopen in January 2026; the Township will post updates on social media.
Chief Richard Bell presented the police report for August: 1,512 calls for service, 163 traffic citations, nine DUI arrests, 37 accident investigations, 63 criminal investigations and 26 adult arrests. Bell said Lower Pottsgrove officers assisted the Pottstown Police Department with a shooting investigation and apprehended the suspect.
Solicitor Ottaviano updated the Board on recent property-maintenance enforcement. A Montgomery County court order authorized remediation at 697 North Price Street; Township crews removed three unregistered vehicles, disposed of rubbish and boarded broken windows. The owner has filed an appeal, which Ottaviano said was filed after remediation and that the Township expects the appeal to be quashed. A separate Sunnyside Avenue property remains under legal review.
Commissioners also authorized a request for 2025–26 winter snow-plowing quotes (unanimous), approved Warrant #959 for July 2025 and accepted the Treasurer’s report for July 2025 (each vote 5-0). Wagner highlighted upcoming community events including Community Day on Sept. 6, a Ringing Rocks Park cleanup on Sept. 27 with Rep. Joe Ciresi’s office, and a Putt for Parks fundraiser on Oct. 4.
The Board adjourned at 7:36 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is Sept. 18, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
