Dolores County commissioners appoint Nolan Henkins to county library board

Dolores County commissioners unanimously appointed Nolan Henkins to the Dolores County Public Library Board during their March 16, 2026 regular meeting.
The board introduced a letter from Mara Allen, bookkeeper for the Dolores County Public Library Board, reporting a vacancy created by the death of longtime board member Caroline McCustin and recommending Henkins. "He's enthusiastic and will bring some perspective and ideas from the younger generation in our community," the letter said. Commissioners praised Henkins for his work with the county fair and his interest in literature and reading.
Commissioner Element moved to appoint Nolan Henkins; another commissioner seconded the motion and the board approved it by voice vote.
Before that appointment, the board approved its agenda with one deletion: the item authorizing Southwest Health Systems to operate an ambulance was removed from new business pending additional correspondence with the ambulance district and the county emergency manager. Commissioners also reviewed and approved expenditures and minutes for the March 2 and March 10 meetings; a minor correction to an EMPG grant item was noted prior to minutes approval.
The board scheduled a 9:30 a.m. session as the Board of Health and a 10:00 a.m. workshop to meet with a Montrose HVAC representative about an ongoing HVAC issue. The commission adjourned and planned to reconvene at 9:30 as the Board of Health.
