Engineer warns of Snell Road Bridge grout issue; township outlines paving and bridge repair schedules

Township engineers told the Board of Commissioners June 2 that an over-grouting issue on the Snell Road Bridge is producing cracking and restricting the movement designed into that span; the contractor will return to make repairs at no cost to the township.
Engineer Nick Perilli said during a final walk-through that one end of beams on the bridge is designed to be unfixed to allow expansion and contraction. The pedestals on that unfixed end were grouted too much and are already beginning to crack, he said. Perilli said the contractor is scheduled to make the repairs the next day and that the work will be performed on the underside of the bridge so traffic will not be affected.
Manager Edward C. Wagner reviewed the township's roadwork calendar: Oil-and-Chip was rescheduled to Tuesday, June 10 for specified streets with a fog seal the following week. Paving is scheduled to begin Monday, June 16 on Cedar Hill Road, Karen Drive, Prospect Hill Lane and Tyler Court; final paving of North Adams Street segments will be coordinated with the Borough of Pottstown and Brookside Country Club.
Wagner also updated the board that East High Street Bridge repair work is scheduled to begin Monday, June 9 and is expected to take about a month, weather permitting, and that the work should not affect current traffic flow. Perilli said the contractor is progressing on design work for the North Adams Street Bridge and he is seeking a PennDOT submission date.
Perilli noted nearby development activity: Wawa and Royal Farms are finishing construction and expect openings in the coming weeks, and township staff continue pre-paving preparations including replacement of manhole castings and storm pipe repairs.
