Lower Pottsgrove to advertise bids for municipal trash contract; optional bidder meeting planned

The Lower Pottsgrove Township Board of Commissioners voted unanimously June 2 to advertise bids for a new municipal trash contract that expires later this year.
Solicitor Jamie Ottaviano said revisions to the legal advertisement and bid instructions were drafted after meetings with township staff and a commissioner. Township Manager Edward C. Wagner told the board an optional bidder meeting will be held in July, bids will be advertised in August and returned in October. The contract term proposed is five years with the option to extend for one or two additional years.
Commissioner William Keohane moved to advertise the bid package contingent on Wagner and Ottaviano finalizing dates; Commissioner Earl E. Swavely seconded. The motion passed 4-0.
Samuel Augustine of J.P. Mascaro & Sons, who attended the meeting, said his company had noted the agenda item and was available to answer questions during the procurement process.
The board did not set a preferred vendor at the meeting; the advertisement and bid instructions are to be finalized by township staff and the solicitor before publication. The procurement timeline provided by staff calls for potential award following receipt and evaluation of bids after the October due date.
