Waynesboro DDA sets parade theme, holiday events and fundraiser plans

The Waynesboro Downtown Development Authority at its Sept. 24 meeting agreed on details for multiple fall and winter community events and discussed fundraising approaches to support them.
Board members discussed and recorded the following event dates: Trick-or-Treat on Liberty on Friday, Oct. 31 from 3 p.m.–5 p.m.; Christmas on Liberty on Friday evening, Dec. 5 beginning around 5 p.m.; and the Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m., with a rainout date on Dec. 13. The board discussed participating in the parade and suggested the parade theme “A Griswold Family Christmas Vacation.”
Staff reported plans for the Downtown Open House on Sunday, Nov. 23 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Don Lively said the DDA has ordered bamboo cutting boards with the bird dog logo as giveaways. Fundraising suggestions included setting up a “Bird Dog Shop” at the future downtown restroom site to sell notecards and coloring books produced by Best Office Solutions and selling greenery during the holidays; Chair Lindsai Mobley-Gentry said she would explore the greenery sale.
No formal vote or dollar amounts were recorded for the fundraising ideas. The meeting record notes ongoing staff work on a Main Street Start Up application and a board request that Don Lively contact businesses used in a secret-shopper program to ask whether they want the results shared.
