Police Chief Richard Bell presented the September report and detailed department activity: 1,414 calls for service, 142 traffic citations, 6 DUI arrests, 32 accident investigations and 52 criminal investigations.
Chief Bell said Lower Pottsgrove recently participated in Aggressive Driving and Medical Marijuana traffic enforcement grant activity and that the department signed an updated MOU expanding the Western SWAT Team to include East Greenville Borough, Pennsburg Borough and Marlborough Township. He said the addition “does not change any operations for Lower Pottsgrove Police Department” and noted the department counted four members assigned to the SWAT Team; he estimated last year’s flat fee for coverage at about $3,500.
Commissioner Raymond W. Lopez reported for Emergency Management that the township is preparing for the biannual Limerick nuclear exercise on Nov. 18. Lopez said the Emergency Planning Zone encompasses parts of Berks, Chester and Montgomery counties and covers roughly 315,000 residents across 43 municipalities; planning and training for the drill have been underway since January.
