Town Administrator announces July 4 beach parking ban and stepped-up enforcement

The Town Administrator said the town will enforce stricter rules for the July 4 holiday, including a ban on daily parking passes at Mayflower, Chapin, Bayview and West Dennis beaches and increased police staffing across the holiday weekend. "Daily parking passes will not be sold or accepted on July 4 at Mayflower Beach, Chapin Beach, Bayview Beach, or West Dennis Beach," the Town Administrator said, adding that only residents with seasonal or weekly parking stickers will be allowed entry to those lots.

The administrator said Dennis Police will concentrate patrols around public beaches, adjacent neighborhoods and major travel routes, and will work with regional and state partners to monitor planned gatherings. Officials warned that illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed and urged drivers to follow posted signs and directions from public-safety personnel.

Temporary traffic-pattern changes, including one-way configurations near several public beaches, will be used to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The administrator said these changes and other public-safety measures will be communicated ahead of the holiday through the town website, the town’s Constant Contact list and the Dennis Police Department social-media channels.

The administrator also said the town will adopt a zero-tolerance posture toward alcohol consumption, drug use, fireworks, excessively loud music and other unsafe behavior at beaches during the holiday weekend. Beachgoers should expect lots to reach capacity early and significant traffic delays throughout the day.
