The Paoli Town Council on Dec. 3 heard from Utility General Foreman Mike Compton about the mismatch between current tap fees and actual costs. Compton said an 8-inch water line with a 3/4-inch tap requiring about eight hours of work costs approximately $2,941 while the town’s fee remains $500; a sewer tap costs about $1,500 while the town fee is $250. Compton said tap fees have not been increased since 2007. Town Attorney Hunt Reynolds advised a public hearing is required to raise tap fees; he said he would check on additional legal steps.
Clerk-Treasurer Beth Jones presented utility billing adjustments totaling $35,742.49 across electric, water, sewer and related taxes and penalties; the Council approved the adjustments (vote recorded as 4-0). Jones also presented claims for Nov. 6–19, 2024 totaling $1,661,516.00; Council approved the claims 4-0.
On personnel, Council clarified benefits for Clyde Hunt’s conversion to full-time employment: he will receive all benefits except insurance and retirement; Council approved the hire (4-0). Council also approved moving airport employee Vance Alden from part-time to full-time beginning Jan. 1, 2025, with all benefits except insurance and retirement; that motion passed 3-0 with President Bobbie Bostock recorded as abstaining.
The transcript records these approvals and the tap-fee discussion but does not include final fee schedules, new fee amounts, or effective dates for any fee changes.
