The South Dennis Historic District Commission on June 17 approved a change to an earlier certificate of appropriateness for 26 Bass River Lane that deletes a proposed rear deck and replaces an eight-foot sliding glass door with a bank of three cottage-style windows.
Ben Thomas, the owner representative and builder for the project, told the commission the work reduces the previously approved scope: "We're just kind of reducing the scope more or less," he said, explaining the slider will be infilled with windows sized to match the existing eight-foot opening and that a rotten basement door will be replaced to match the rest of the house.
Commission members asked for clarification on window style and trim; Thomas said the windows will be casement units with a picture window in the center and cottage-style grills consistent with other kitchen windows. Chair and design reviewers confirmed trim will be matte and that porch elements approved earlier remain unchanged.
Commissioner Don recused himself from the review because he lives within 300 feet of the property. Committee member David moved to accept the amended changes and Liz seconded; the board voted in favor and approved the change order. The commission then returned to its agenda.
