Students and teachers recognized; AP Biology students create children’s books on photosynthesis

The board’s Jan. 15 meeting included a positive report from the middle and high school and an AP Biology classroom highlight.
Trevor Henckel, speaking on behalf of the science department, summarized recent student activities: successful homecoming events, the start of an After School Assistance Program for K–12 students on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Science Olympiad wins (first place in Food Science and other placements), strong DECA results (31 of 41 students placing), and bowling team achievements. Henckel invited the board and public to upcoming athletic events and club activities.
AP Biology teacher Mrs. Grismer discussed an end-of-unit project: students created children’s books explaining photosynthesis and cellular respiration and presented them to a 4th-grade class as a peer-teaching exercise. The board recognized Emily Wagner as the district’s Teacher of the Month for January following peer nominations.
These items were presented as part of the superintendent’s report and required no board action.
