Sugar Grove police chief reports equipment fixes, new county agreements and ordinance coordination

Chief Jason Costlow updated the Sugar Grove Village Council on vehicle maintenance, equipment repairs and new interagency access at the July 16 meeting.
Costlow said the department located an older shoulder patch to use on new uniforms, repaired and recertified the radar unit in cruiser 791, completed a recall on cruiser 790, and performed routine maintenance including new tires and an oil change on cruiser 791. He reported that the department signed a LEADS agreement with the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office and now has access to Tyler Tech reporting and computer functions in cruiser 791.
Costlow also said he spoke with the Fairfield County Commissioner's Office about the possibility of villages adopting countywide ordinances and that the county will provide zoning ordinances for the village’s consideration. He told council he will provide copies of those zoning ordinances to Fiscal Officer Sarah Haley and Solicitor Darren Meade for review and possible incorporation into local code.
The council received Chief Costlow’s written council report that summarized calls for service, traffic stops, business checks, patrol hours and fuel use. No formal council action on policing policy or budgeting was recorded beyond routine acceptance of the written report.
The council adopted the financial report earlier in the meeting and then proceeded to personnel items and bonding coverage.
