Pittsboro council seeks estimate for sanitation rate study and sets heavy-trash, shred days

Council members said a rate study would help the town explain changes to residents and identify operational efficiencies. A member noted recent service improvements and cited significant year-over-year cost increases in solid-waste operations; another member recommended providing the consultant with customer-count data to scope the study. The council agreed to seek a price range and asked staff to return the estimate for consideration before committing town funds.
Separately, the council proposed pairing the town’s heavy-trash and document-shred events with Hendricks County’s Toxaway Days. Members suggested a Friday–Saturday pairing in spring (May 1–2) and fall (Oct. 2–3) and asked the clerk to confirm vendor availability so the dates can be finalized at the next meeting.
Councilors also discussed shifting some sanitation positions from hourly to salaried classifications and asked staff to consult HR for sample job descriptions and comparables from other municipalities. The council did not take a final vote on rates or staffing changes; it instructed staff to gather proposals, vendor availability and scope estimates and return with firm cost figures.
