Sugar Grove council accepts two maintenance resignations, hires police sergeant and names public works coordinator

Council President Tabitha Deeds called the meeting to order at 7:16 p.m. The council unanimously approved the meeting agenda. Deeds then moved to accept the resignation of maintenance worker Jeff Hursey, effective Sept. 27, 2024; the motion passed 6-0. Councilman Gerald Selby subsequently moved to accept the resignation of maintenance worker Shad Goodwin, effective Sept. 8, 2024; that motion also passed 6-0.
During the same session, councilmembers approved hiring Kelly Brown as a sergeant in the Village of Sugar Grove Police Department. Councilman Jay Solenbarger made the motion to hire Brown, which passed 6-0. The minutes record Kelly Brown on the meeting sign-in sheet as an attendee.
Councilman Chad Lester moved to accept the resignation of Jay Solenbarger from Village Council, effective Sept. 11, 2024; the motion passed 5-0 with Solenbarger not recorded on that roll call. Immediately afterward, Councilmember Robin Sanborn moved to hire Jay Solenbarger as the village's Public Works Coordinator, effective Sept. 12, 2024, at $35.00 per hour for a 40-hour week and with preapproval for any overtime worked above four hours per week; that motion passed 5-0.
Councilman Kendall Leland moved to adjourn at 7:55 p.m.; Gerald Selby seconded and the council adjourned by acclamation. Fiscal Officer Sarah Haley attested the meeting minutes and the written minutes were submitted by President Tabitha Deeds.
The meeting packet included a sign-in sheet listing Kelly Brown and Robert Brown as attendees and a procedural notice citing Ohio law (R.C. 2917.12) on conduct at public meetings. The minutes do not record extended discussion or dissent on the personnel actions.
