Hebron officials see nine-acre former elementary school as valuable asset despite renovation costs

Several councilmembers and a visitor discussed the village’s possible purchase of the former elementary school and the trade-offs involved.
Visitor Harold Winegardner said he "feels purchasing the elementary school is a very good fit for Hebron as long as it is not too costly." Council President Randy Wolf said many of the building’s issues are cosmetic and that the property could be repurposed to office space; members agreed the nine-acre parcel is the biggest asset.
Councilmember Annelle Porter said she had reservations about the purchase but acknowledged the long-term land value. Kenney Nauer suggested operational improvements such as installing time clocks for village departments be considered separately through the personnel committee.
No formal motion or purchase decision was recorded at the meeting; councilmembers indicated the question will be discussed further in committee and as staff develops cost estimates.
