The Cotter Public Schools Board of Education met Nov. 21, 2024 and took unanimous action on a slate of routine governance items, including minutes, financial reports, legal services, athletic funds, personnel recommendations and student transfer petitions.
Allen Franks, board president, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The board first approved the Oct. 17 meeting minutes on a motion by Cameron Ross, seconded by Jimmy Morgan. Superintendent Jones reviewed and the board approved the October financial reports on a motion by Cameron Ross, seconded by Russel Duggins.
Superintendent Jones recommended retaining Kristen Craig Garner for school legal assistance for 12 months at a rate of $2,400 per year; Russel Duggins moved to approve the retainment, Jimmy Morgan seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The board also approved administrative changes to athletic accounting: establishing Fund 7092 as Jr. High Baseball and changing Fund 7091 to Sr. High Baseball on motions by Luke Walker, seconded by Jimmy Morgan.
The board entered executive session at 7:28 p.m. and exited at 8:21 p.m. After reconvening, the board approved the Personnel Report on a motion by Jimmy Morgan, seconded by Cameron Ross. Superintendent Jones presented petitions for student transfers required under Act 731 of 2023 (A.C.A. 6-13-1007); the board approved four incoming transfers from Mountain Home School District and two from Flippin School District, and approved four outgoing transfers (two to Mountain Home, one to Harrison School District, and one to Yellville‑Summit School District). The transcript records that each petition was considered and voted on as required but does not list individual student names in the public minutes.
Superintendent Jones reported district enrollment at 374 elementary students and 323 high school students for a total of 697. The board set the December meeting for Dec. 12, 2024 and adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
