Pittsboro Parks Board members agreed to pursue a Hendricks County Parks Foundation grant with a March 20 application deadline to support improvements at Scott Park.
Bart and other members said the foundation funds projects that may range from $2,500 upward and that award structures vary (some grants are full funding; others are matching). The board resolved to develop concrete plans and bids to make the application competitive: members will obtain court dimensions, secure contractor bids, and create a drawing and project description that highlights recent park improvements (bathroom work and asphalt repairs) and explains why new work is needed.
The board discussed possible projects including a full-size basketball court with a concrete pad, striping and two goals; members noted that grant reviewers expect drawings and a clear scope of work. “We need to put together a plan, not a definitive plan, but a plan,” Bart said, urging the board to prepare bids before the application deadline.
Members emphasized community engagement for Fisher Hill Park and Scott Park planning, and they assigned follow-up tasks: obtain bids, confirm whether the foundation requires matching funds or will fund 100 percent, and consult with the foundation’s contact (Katie) before submission. The board also noted the foundation hosts a May reception where winners receive checks and that a board representative will be expected to inspect completed work.
Next steps: staff will gather dimensions and bids, prepare drawings for Scott Park, contact the Parks Foundation contact to confirm application requirements and submit by March 20.
