Pittsboro planning commission directs staff to update future land-use map after annexations

Pittsboro planning staff presented proposed updates to the town’s future land-use map, noting that several annexations north of Interstate 74 and incoming industrial plats make the map out of date. Staff said the map has not been amended since the comprehensive plan’s adoption and that recent plats (including FTI and Opus developments) prompted the review.
The commission discussed how to depict areas outside town jurisdiction (the map’s red planning area extends beyond the town boundary) and whether to include additional land south of town. Commissioners gave staff direction to finalize the draft with clarifying legend treatments to show parcels the town does not control and to prepare a formal write-up of the amendment so it can proceed through public notice and public hearing.
Chair moved that staff continue the update and proceed with an amendment write-up; the commission approved the direction. The work will continue ahead of the next plan commission cycles and any proposed amendments will be noticed for public comment and subsequent hearings.
