The Broken Bow City Council on May 12 approved Resolution 2026-08 authorizing the city to explore selling the property locally known as the Armory (parcel ID 001236600).
City Administrator David Schmidt told the council that the city examined several reuse ideas since taking ownership but could not proceed because renovation and long-term maintenance costs were too high. He said the city has received informal interest by word of mouth and that soliciting offers would be the first step; City Attorney Jason White emphasized the resolution does not itself approve any sale.
A resident, Joe Linder, asked the council to delay the resolution so he could consult with the YMCA in Kearney about indoor pool cost estimates. Administrator Schmidt said the initial solicitation and bid process would take about two months and that approving the resolution does not trigger an immediate transfer of ownership.
The council voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2026-08 to move forward with exploring potential sale options for the property. The city will return to the council with bids and additional details before any sale could be authorized.
