Selectmen approve VFA fire-assistance agreement; wastewater construction bids extended

The Henniker Board of Selectmen approved a Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) grant agreement and designated the town administrator as the authorized agent to execute necessary documents; the board voted to approve the motion after a second.
Town staff described the VFA grant as a matching grant for forest-fire equipment (noted in the meeting as $2,000) and said the matching funds are available in the equipment budget; the agreement requires subsequent approval through the governor and council process. Committee member (S3) moved to approve the agreement and designate the town administrator as the authorized agent; Committee member (S5) seconded and the motion passed.
In the town administrator’s report, Diane said the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services completed its review and approved the construction-phase engineering contract for the wastewater upgrade. She said several contractors requested extensions and the town extended the bid due date to Tuesday the 22nd at 2 p.m.; Underwood Engineering will evaluate bids and present a recommendation to the board for award.
Diane also reported progress on wildfire mitigation-related grant work and a community wildfire protection plan that complements the hazard mitigation plan; she encouraged the community to review linked master plan materials for the Hopkinton Everett Lakes area and said the town engineer will assess the Azalea Riverbank project estimate if the board chooses to pursue it.
