Council approves $1,000 for clerk training, accepts June financials with one abstention

The North High Shoals Town Council on July 28 approved up to $1,000 to fund the town clerk’s professional development training in Duluth and accepted routine financial items, with one abstention recorded.

Council member Hilda Kurtz moved to authorize an expense not to exceed $1,000 to cover the Town Clerk’s training costs in September, including mileage and funds to pay an individual to staff the office for three days while the clerk is away. Council member Eric Wright seconded the motion, which passed 4–0.

The council also reviewed and accepted the June 2025 financial statement. Council member Eric Wright moved to accept the financial statement; Council member Eric Carlson seconded. The motion passed with a 3–0 vote; Council member Hilda Kurtz abstained because she had been absent from the June meeting, according to the minutes.

Mayor Stephen Goad reported on a separate administrative matter: the town’s proposed inspections contract with Bureau Veritas was revised after the town attorney raised concerns about the original form. The modified contract has been returned to Bureau Veritas and the town is awaiting a response.

Other routine business included a public comment by Mark McMain, who introduced himself as a candidate for State Senate District 46, and a lengthy neighborhood complaint presented by resident Julie Memler; the transcript does not record any formal council action in response to that complaint. The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m. on a motion by Council member Eric Carlson that carried 4–0.
